Jan Pamuła (1944–2022)

Graduated from the Faculty of Painting and Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (currently the Faculty of Painting at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków) in 1968.
He studied painting under Hanna Rudzka-Cybis, lithography under Konrad Srzednicki, and intaglio printmaking under Mieczysław Wejman. He also studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts (National School of Fine Arts) in Paris in 1967.
A grantee of the French Government (1980), the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York (1982), and the Fulbright Program (1993).
Professionally, he was associated with his alma mater, where he attained the title of full professor in 1996. He served as the Vice-Rector of the university from 1996 to 2002, and as its Rector from 2002 to 2008.
Awards and decorations: Gold Cross of Merit (1999), Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2003), and the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis (2018).
Recognized as one of the pioneers of computer art in Poland. In the 1970s, he began creating in the spirit of geometric abstraction, and in 1980, he produced his first computer graphics at the prestigious Atelier de Recherches Techniques Avancées at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
He participated in over 50 solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad, as well as numerous group exhibitions.
Works in museum collections: National Museum in Warsaw, National Museum in Kraków, Museum of Architecture in Wrocław, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Albertina Museum in Vienna, and Mondriaanhuis Museum in Amersfoort (Netherlands).
